Dreavita Partners with A Home Within to Provide Free Long-Term Therapy for Foster Adults & Youth
Dreavita is partnering with A Home Within (AHW) to help expand access to long-term, relationship-based psychotherapy for adults and youth who have experienced foster care.
AHW is a national nonprofit that connects licensed volunteer clinicians with current and former foster youth for weekly therapy at no cost. There is no time limit on care. The model prioritizes stability, consistency, and sustained therapeutic relationships.
Youth in foster care face disproportionately high rates of trauma exposure, attachment disruption, and placement instability. Short-term care often fails to account for relational repair over time. AHW’s structure directly addresses that gap.
Why This Model Matters
Foster youth frequently experience:
Complex trauma
Grief and ambiguous loss
Interrupted mental health services
System-related instability
A consistent therapeutic relationship can provide continuity many youth do not otherwise have.
What Volunteer Clinicians Receive
Volunteering with AHW includes built-in professional support.
Clinicians gain access to:
A nationwide community of mental health professionals
Virtual, culturally affirming continuing education
Ongoing clinical consultation (virtual or in-person, depending on chapter)
Professional development opportunities
A digital toolkit addressing social determinants of health
